Africa Travel and Tourism Guide - Wild Elephants at Kenya Safari

Upon my arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport I caught a flight to Kichwa Airstrip. After a brief ride by open bus I arrived at the Kichwa Tembo Tented Camp known to the local inhabitants as the tented safari camp. We were situated just beneath the historical African location where Out of Africa’s celebrated final scene was filmed.

Our tent even had an exclusive deck overlooking the huge game-filled plains of the Masai Mara, as well as having a personal butler assigned to us. I quickly discovered a fascinating outdoor restaurant nearby that was covered with Maasai thatch grass and overlooked the Mara plains. It conferred to me the impression of an early 1950’s movie made in Africa. My dinner was served alfresco style meaning outdoors. The meal consisted of a main course of Jollof Rice which is a spicy chicken with rice along with fresh outdoor baked flatbread. There were clay dishes of sweet potatoes and several other vegetables on the side. All this good food was washed down with locally homemade honey wine known as Tej. Arriving in the mid part of July, I was fortunate enough to witness what is frequently referred to as the Great Migration. Kichwa Tembo is situated at the foot of the Oloololo Escarpment on the western border of the Masai Mara Reserve. This lies directly in the corridor of the magnificent Great Migration where over two million herbivores thunder through the Serengeti to the sweet grass of the unfenced Masai Mara which is Kenya’s richest wildlife sanctuary.

As our eight day safari began to draw to it unfortunate closing stages, I concluded my last exciting evening adventure with a sunrise game drive in our open 4×4 safari vehicle. During the drive I observed a lion-kill in the true African wilderness. My last official act before falling asleep was to finally gaze upon the breathtaking views of the famous snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro during a full moon. It was a stunning view.

  2. Hotelsbible.com was highly recommended to me by a colleague who booked his hotel room from the site for a business trip, and I think he was absolutely right. Keep up the good work. This looks like a very friendly site! A class apart.

  3. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that Safari in Kenya, Africa, is just about viewing animals. Well, at least that’s what I thought before I had had my first trip to Kenya. But in fact the cultural encounter that I had with the Masai tribes made my safari experience far more fulfilling. So when you get there, just keep your eyes ide open, people. And believe me, African Safari is as much for those who prefer cultural tourism than for those passionate about wildlife.
